Design Exploration and Rationale

Design Choices

I wanted my asset to be unique from different pianos. Two design choices I had chose were the lid and the legs of the piano. I had originally designed the piano lid to sink into the pianos body, as I did not want the lid to remain flat. However, I had also experimented with the lid rising, and this was my final design choice. I also had a similar idea for the legs. So I had decided to include a twist into them to make them unique.

Creation and Explanation of Unique Asset

Firstly, I believe my Hero Asset to be unique is because grand pianos are rare musical instruments. Not only because of their size, but because of their price. There are not many homes which include a grand piano in them. Secondly, I have made the texture of the asset also unique to the environment. As the pianos body has become rotted and infected which fits with our theme.

My Hero Asset is not a normal asset, because of the design of the piano. I have added unique designs which would make the asset stand out amongst similar assets, and I believe it would make a good centrepiece. Not only from the design, but also from the textures.

Iterative Process

I originally thought of a guitar for my Hero Asset. I was thinking of musical instruments as I wanted the lore of our environment to show that whoever owned the library was into music. My idea moved onto a grand piano as I thought a grand piano suited our environment more than a guitar. As I believe that a grand piano is a more sophisticated instrument than a guitar, and I wanted to show that the person who owned the library is a sophisticated person.
