Theme and Location Exploration

Exploration

Our group researched different ideas for our locations. Different ideas such as the assets which would be included in our environments, what our environments would look like and inspiration from other similar environments. The research we gathered included environments from popular media from video games and films. Which included media such as ‘The Walking Dead’, ‘The Last of Us’, ‘Resident Evil’ and general overgrown environments.

Our group had created a small concept board, which included quick sketches of what the layouts of our environments would potentially look like, and what objects our environments would include. We had considered how many floors the environments would have, and the placement of our individual assets. Our group had also started very early, which I liked, as I prefer to be in a group which starts their projects early, instead of leaving the projects to the last minute which can be a stressful experience.

We had created a whiteboard on Microsoft Teams which included very early concepts of what we wanted the layouts of our environments to be, what hero assets and normal assets we could create and include, and what the general aesthetic of the environments would be. We had experimented with different layouts such as a small square room, and a longer rectangular layout. As we had gained inspiration from popular media such as ‘Resident Evil’. I had suggested an early concept of having a small square room, with each of our hero assets in each corner of the room.

Here is the link for our groups Moodboard – https://padlet.com/tjc2200/u1hwyvhw1xphv97l. Our group had gathered images and screenshots of what we wanted our environments to look like. As our chosen theme was Infected/Corrupted, we had gained inspiration from media we had already seen before. Such inspiration included overgrown environments, abandoned environments and run down environments. These were all the main inspirations for our project, and we believe we have created such environments in our own locations.
