What I Learned

I have learned not only how to animate a character. But to animate a character with personality. I believe from my sequences I have been able to express my characters personality through their movements and create a character with non-human like traits. Such as having the strength to hang off a branch with one arm, and crawl at speed on all fours.

This process has also taught me the necessary steps on how to rig, weight paint and create animations for a character, and I hope to be able to put these skills to good use in the future.

Future Changes

In future I would do three things differently. Firstly, I would improve the weight painting on my model. As I struggled with this the most, and the weight painting of my model does have some flaws. For example, on the shoulder when the arm moves up, it is not correctly weight painted.

Secondly, I would add facial expressions to my character. I made the decision to not include blend shapes, because the attention would be solely on the characters movement.

Finally, I would add more animation principles to my animations. As I have not used every single one of the 12 animation principles, and having more knowledge of animation now than I did before I started the process, I believe I would be able to add more animation principles with the skills I have learnt.

Character Design

I believe the movement of my character supports my character design by having the unnatural and inhuman like movement, such as the crawl. Alongside the creepy and stalking mannerisms. I believe that a human would not act like this, and the average human would also not be able to jump off a tree and hang onto a branch with one arm. With my character being a demon, it has the strength to do this, and expresses demonic motions, such as the unearthly roar.
