Inspirations
I drew inspiration from three different pieces of digital media. Since I wanted my character to have a terrifying movement, I searched for media from the horror genre, where I felt I would find the most suitable inspirations.
Firstly, the Lickers from Resident Evil 2 (Capcom, 2019). I had also gathered inspiration from these creatures for my character design. However, I was interested in the way they crawl on all fours, which appears inhuman. This was perfect as this was my vision for my character.
Similarly, I also drew inspiration from the Xenomorph’s crawling animations from Alien: Isolation (Creative Assembly, 2014). This inspiration was helpful in achieving my goal for my sequences. As it looked very similar to my vision for my characters crawling cycle.
Finally, the monsters from A Quiet Place (A Quiet Place, 2014) inspired me for my characters jump attack. These monsters have a jump attack which I wanted to incorporate into my sequences and have my character transition into an attack whilst mid-air. However, for this inspiration the monsters’ limbs are very different from my own characters, and this is something I had to consider.
These animations have inspired me because they each offer a unique element which I want to include. As my objective was to create movements which are for a demonic creature.
